It's the first week of October, which means it's Paris Fashion Week for the women's
Prêt-à-Porter (ready-to-wear) collections. There were collections to die for and others, just left us wondering if the designers even had the word practical in their minds. Straight off the bat, this will be a three-part coverage of the favorite looks from PFW. The reason for that is simple, too many fantastic designers and too little space to present the favorites. Let's get on with the show, shall we?
The beginning of the week is pretty much a softening mood so that the heavy hitters and powerhouses of the fashion world can live up to everyone's expectations later in the week - much pressure for them. For the sake of time and quality, the favorite looks on this post are from the more well known labels of the world. (Click each underlined name to view the entire collection; not ranked)
Alexander McQueen - It's always felt that this has been more than just a label. Every season, it's a beautiful piece of art one after another. The legacy in which the late Alexander McQueen has left has only been lifted higher by Sarah Burton. A woman's touch to the collections, with the true essence of Alexander McQueen still intact, makes it even more special. This collection, like any other, was magical. It had the mystique of the vast oceans and the living creatures within. Sarah Burton used the seas for her inspiration in this collection. Once again, very difficult to choose only three favorite looks collection.

Chanel - Karl Lagerfeld's collection was shown before the Alexander McQueen show but one thing they both had in common was the inspiration of the seas. This may not have been as goddess-like as Sarah Burton's collection but the magic was comparable. This Chanel collection was to be taken in a different direction without breaking any Chanel codes. The style was copied by too many people as told by Lagerfeld. Another underwater theme, another element inspired work. Imagine being approached by underwater nymphs draped in heavenly colors.

Christian Dior - Bill Gayten and company took the safe route this time around as their couture collection was highly criticized. It has been somewhat of a bumpy road so far after the John Galliano incident. This was possibly the best way to approach the new collection and it did rest well by the audience. They went back to the basics, to the blueprints, and came out with something very, very pretty. There wasn't too much of a casual look to any of the pieces but rightfully so. The pride had to show and what better way to do it than to dress up the Spring collection. This became a favorite and a lovable runway.

Elie Saab - Color Shock. That's what he called this collection. The Lebanese fashion designer was really destined for the red carpet. Glamor comes very easy to him, at least from what we can see. The likes of Halle Barry, Kate Winslet, and Angelina Jolie have worn his magnificent and beautiful dresses. He has made Paris is permanent runway for his ready-to-wear collections. He's earned the right since 2006. His work will make a woman swoon. This collection was no exception. From sequins, bold colors, and sultry neck-lines, the collection was simply gorgeous.

Givenchy - While so many other labels went coo-coo for prints, Riccardo Tisci went against the trends and concentrated more on the tailoring. It's was a nice welcome, it's good to have something different for a change. It's almost as if he moved on, looking past the prints, although, the water element theme continued. He said he was inspired by surfers and mermaids for this collection. And having Gisele Bündchen in one of the pieces didn't hurt anyone either. Bonus. Thank you for the change and thank you for the wonderful collection.
