Merlin Today

The hokey little fantasy experiment that started off sometime in 2006 and made its small-screen debut on BBC One in 2008 culminated in a massive cult sensation, rivalling popular shows like Dr Who, and crossing borders to win the hearts of millions of fans worldwide. We are, of course, talking about Merlin, starring Colin Morgan and Bradley Cooper, which chronicles the adventures of the young warlock before he got his white beard and pointy hat.
So, in the show, Brad (Arthur) and Colin (Merlin) go around dressed like this:

And then someone really cool tried interpreting how these characters would dress in a more contemporary setting, and we got:

21st century Arthur and Merlin
So we at LWIS decided to focus on the lovely ladies on the show to see what they would look like in today's world.

The Naughty Hottie

Camelot's biggest threat comes in the form of the embittered and vengeful witch Lady Morgana Pendragon, Arthur's half-sister, played by the ethereal Katie McGrath.
In the earlier seasons of the show, Morgana steals the show in opulent gowns in brilliant jewel tones that shimmer against her pale, pale skin. When her darker nature surfaces, she switches to dreadlocks, all-black clothing, and shimmery green eye-shadow.

How would a modern-day Morgana dress? Off-screen, Katie McGrath is a style icon in her own right, but we decided to indulge in a little flight of fancy.

Queen of Hearts

Arthur's lady love is portrayed by the pretty Angel Coulby. The first major departure from the traditional versions, Guinevere is portrayed in the series as being the daughter of the town blacksmith and a handmaid to Lady Morgana, who ultimately ends up capturing the heart of the once and future king.
As a servant girl in Camelot, Gwen dresses in simple clothes, and demure colours as befitting her station. She switches to khakis and furs to fight alongside her men (for she is Sir Lancelot's love as well) when the kingdom is threatened. So how does that translate into contemporary fashion? Here's what we came up with:

Drifting Damsel Dress

Karl Donoghue Shearling Stole
Zohara Leaves Beige Tights
Dream Drops

Two looks for two very different queens. Hit or miss? Let us know.

Ava Clutch by Mulberry
Whimsical, carefee, there is youthful charm in this look. Worn with nude hosiery or lace tights, with a messy updo, this is a perfect casual look.
Swap the flats for some heels and throw on a trench and shades, and it becomes a daytime party dress. You can even add darker leggings and take it to work. In short, a versatile, young outfit.

Marc Jacobs fine-knit merino wool sweater
T by Alexander Wang silk pocket shirt
Plein Sud black pencil skirt
Brian Atwood - Berton ruched suede knee boots
Leathersmith small leaf embossed leather envelope
Adelphia's emerald green fabric wrapped gold bangle set
1900s Olivine Art Noveau lever back earrings
The color and shade of the sweater will make today's item completely pop. It's the perfect semi-formal look, an outfit you can take straight from the workplace to the get-together afterward. Keep the shirt tucked-in and buttoned while at work then, take it off completely, with only the sweater intact, and head off to meet up with your friends.

Armed and Dangerous

Source: zap2it.com

The season finale of Season 6 of Dexter, Showtime's hit series about a lovable serial killer (and that the adjective fits that particular noun speaks volumes about the state of society) was aired a couple of weeks ago, and we thought we'd give you some time to catch up by talking about the looks of the characters. We're firing up this newest section by focusing on the leading ladies of the series, Lt Debra Morgan and Captain Maria LaGuerta; two very different women, with very different styles.

A Dose of Debra

Source: television-talk.com
Dexter's gun-toting, butt-kicking and potty-mouthed sister Debra Morgan is played by the gorgeous Jennifer Carpenter, his off-screen ex-wife.

Tall, slim and leggy Deb is a woman in a very masculine job, and determined to fit in, and be taken seriously by the men in her work. The swearing and tough act is part of that attempt, but it's more than just posturing - the newly appointed Lieutenant of Miami Metro has serious detecting chops, bagging promotions and honors left, right and centre. The fact that underneath that hard-as-nails exterior is an emotionally vulnerable woman, only makes her more adorable.

You can get all that in one glance from her clothes any time she's on-screen. Debra keeps it professional in button-down shirts and wide-leg trousers, and accessorizes with big watches, aviators and low-heels. Her colors, in spite of sunny Florida, are sober, and she tends to favor stripes and plaid over any other print when she does wear print. Since becoming lieutenant, she briefly flirted with the idea of wearing a skirt, before opting to update her normal work clothes by adding a well-cut jacket. It must be mentioned that though she prefers masculine clothes, they are always well-tailored and fit to flatter her slender figure. On the rare occasion that she's not hunting criminals, Deb can be seen in gym sweats, or skinny jeans and t-shirts with slogans.

Maria's Melange

The conniving hardball playing head of Miami Metro's Homicide Department is played by the sizzling Lauren VĂ©lez, and she is perhaps one of the most interesting characters on the show.

In direct contrast to Debra's idealistic naivete, Captain Maria LaGuerta prefers to play a man's game with a woman's rules. Ambitious, scheming, and manipulative, she's not afraid to make the moral grey choices, and will take advantage of every opportunity to claim the spotlight. A complicated woman with complex emotions, every time you think you've got her figured out, she will surprise you.

Also unlike Deb, Laguerta doesn't hide the fact that she's a woman. Bright colours, animal prints and florals, high heels, jewelry, and perfume, she walks through the station in dresses and cardigans, and works the press in a suit and skirt.

There are many ways to approach any given situation, and this holds true for fashion as well, as displayed by the women in Dexter. Stay tuned for more TV Trends coming soon your way.

This look is a fun re-interpretation of the shalwar kameez ensemble, and can be customized for any semi-formal event. We've used generic pouches and green shawls here, but you can always dig up your own favourite pashmina or Kashmiri shawl and botua and own this look. For a more western take, you can swap the leggings for dark blue skinny jeans and toss the shawl in favour of a jacket and still make this work.

There is no lying about this look. It's not an outfit you can wear wherever. It's purely a statement of elegance. Matched with that gorgeous necklace, you can find yourself turning plenty of heads. The colors compliment each other so you don't have to worry about sticking out like a sore thumb. The glamor in the accessories do just enough to keep the entire look balanced. This outfit leans more on the western-style of fashion, but it takes only a couple of elements to keep the flavors of South Asia alive.
